Red Sox Prospect Rizzo Added to Sea Dogs Roster

Portland, Maine- The Boston Red Sox have promoted first baseman Anthony Rizzo from Single-A Salem to the Portland Sea Dogs. Rizzo will wear uniform # 26. He is expected to make his Double-A debut Tuesday night when the Sea Dogs take on the Binghamton Mets at 6:00 PM at Hadlock Field.

The 20 year-old has appeared in 29 games for the Salem Red Sox this season hitting .248 with five home runs and 20 RBI. He is the eighth ranked prospect in the Red Sox organization by Baseball America.

Last season, Rizzo led all Red Sox minor leaguers with a .368 on base percentage and ranked among the organizational leaders in batting (3rd, .297), and RBI (5th, 66), splitting the season between Single-A Greenville and Single-A Salem. He was named a South Atlantic League All-Star and the Red Sox Minor League Defensive Player of the Month for July. Rizzo was selected by the Red Sox in the sixth round of the 2007 First-Year Player Draft.
