Author of Satchel Paige Biography to Visit Regions Park

Author Larry Tye will be at Regions Park when the Birmingham Barons host the Montgomery Biscuits on Monday, May 17. Tye scribed the recently released, New York Times Bestseller, Satchel: The Life and Times of an American Legend.

Tye will conduct a pre-game Q&A session with fans prior to the night's ballgame. He will be joined by a number of Negro League legends, some of which played with Paige. The session will begin at 6:15 PM and take place on the smoking pad down the first base line. Fans will also be given a chance to have their books signed following the session.

Satchel: The Life and Times of an American Legend was named one of the best books of the year by The New York Times, The Chicago Tribune and The Kansas City Star. It was also the winner of the Casey Award and the Seymour Award, given to the year's best baseball book.

LeRoy "Satchel" Paige is one of 10 former Birmingham baseball players to be elected in the Pro Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY. He pitched for the Birmingham Black Barons from 1927-30 and made his Major League debut with the Cleveland Indians in 1948. At 42-years old, Paige is the oldest player in MLB history to make his debut, and at 59-years old, he was the oldest player to play in the majors. His election into the Hall of Fame in 1971 made him the first former Negro League player to be enshrined. He was elected into the Barons Hall of Fame in 2008.
