Fornataro quiets Rattlers in game one
DAVENPORT, IA - Quad Cities
starting pitcher Eric Fornataro got four runs and ran with them in game one of a
doubleheader at Modern Woodmen Park. The
right-hander struck out eight over six shutout innings and picked up the win as
the River Bandits beat Wisconsin 4-0 Tuesday night. CJ
Beatty had the big hit in a three-run fourth inning for the River Bandits.
The loss was the sixth in a row for the Rattlers.
The Bandits (20-12) broke the
scoreless tie in the fourth inning. Rattlers
starting pitcher Kyle Heckathorn struck out the leadoff batter to set a
professional single game high for strikeouts with six.
Then, Matt Adams and Ryde Rodriguez singled and Ryan Jackson drew a walk
to load the bases. Then, Beatty
drove a 2-2 pitch to left-center for a three-run double.
Niko Vasquez hit a one-out solo
homer in the bottom of the fifth inning off reliever Caleb Thielbar to pad the
River Bandits' cushion to 4-0.
Fornataro retired the first 11
Wisconsin hitters he faced, allowed two hits, hit a batter, and did not walk a
batter over his six innings of work. Justin
Smith came on for the seventh inning and retired the Rattlers (9-22) in order to
end game one.
