MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Biscuits (23-28) were defeated by the Jackson Generals (29-21), 6-3, on Tuesday night at Riverwalk Stadium. The loss dropped Montgomery to 9-17 this season while playing in the Capital City.
Biscuits' starting pitcher J.D. Martin (3-7), who was 2-0 with a 0.68 ERA during the ten-game road trip, struggled with control during the opening frame. Martin issued two-out walks to Jamie Westbrook and Rudy Flores, extending the inning for former Biscuit Juniel Querecuto. After Querecuto singled, loading the bases, Josh Prince drove home a pair with a 2-RBI single.
Despite Martin inducing a fly out of Marcus Littlewood to end the first-inning threat, the knuckleballer failed to subdue Jackson's lineup in the third. Westbrook reignited the offense with a lead-off triple, scoring as the Generals' third run on a Flores sacrifice fly. Prince would plate his third RBI on a one-out single.
While Jackson's offense was marching forward, the Biscuits plated a run in the second and third innings. Brett Sullivan scored the first run, hitting his third home run of the season. Jermaine Palacios added Montgomery's second score with an RBI-triple, cutting the Generals' lead to 4-2.
As Montgomery appeared prime to continue the scoring trend, Westbrook blasted a Martin offering over the left field wall for a two-run home run. Westbrook's eighth home run of the season replenished the Jackson advantage to 6-2, a margin the Biscuits would be unable to overcome.
While Montgomery was able to score its third run, thanks to a Nathan Lukes RBI-double, the Biscuits could not rally against Gabe Speier and Daniel Gibson. The two Generals' relievers stranded two base-runners preserving Justin Donatella's (3-2) winning decision.
The Biscuits will continue a five-game set against Jackson on Wednesday night at 6:35 p.m. Génesis Cabrera (4-3) will take the ball for Montgomery on Military Wednesday while the Generals will start Bo Takahashi (0-0), who is making his Double-A debut.
The five-game homestand also includes Country Music Night featuring a T-Shirt Giveaway presented by WLWI on Thursday, May 31, and Gump in the Gump featuring a Greenbow Biscuits Jersey Auction and MAX Fireworks on Friday, June 1.
