MIDLAND, Mich. - It has been 12 years since Dow Diamond was constructed in the heart of downtown Midland. Along with amenities like the baseball field, playground, and the multitude of food offerings, the Loon Loft team store has been a popular attraction during Great Lakes Loons home games.
Set to open on May 14 in Midland is 'Glory Days', a retro-themed store that will feature apparel for both men and women. It will be located inside the existing Loon Loft on the street level with 400 square feet dedicated to sports and lifestyle brands.
"The store-within-a-store concept will allow fans a greater selection of retro apparel that is consistent with Michigan sports and up north living," Loons Chief Operating Officer Scott Litle said. "Fans consistently request retro apparel and more variety. Our region is passionate about college and professional sports. Now with this new space, our fans will be able to show off their team's colors."
Items available for purchase will feature the Detroit Red Wings, Detroit Tigers, Detroit Lions, Detroit Pistons, Michigan, and Michigan State. Other offerings will include Michigan lifestyle brands and other up North-themed retro wear. Tees, fleeces, and hats will rotate frequently to give fans the chance to see and experience new items on a regular basis.
The Saginaw Jack Rabbits, as part of Minor League Baseball's 'Hometown Collection', will also be included. The Jack Rabbits represented Saginaw in the Class A Central League for one year in 1951. The club went 79-58 that year with pitcher Ed Albosta, a Saginaw native, winning 19 games. Albosta pitched for the Brooklyn Dodgers (1941) and Pittsburgh Pirates (1946) prior to joining the Jack Rabbits. The league folded after the conclusion of the 1951 season.
Operating hours for Glory Days will be 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday thru Friday with access to the Loon Loft available on the northwest side of Dow Diamond next to the Home Plate Gate. Fans will also have access to the retro-themed store during all Loons home games.
Parking for store customers during normal business hours will be available in the circle drive, also located on the northwest side of Dow Diamond. Additional parking will be permitted in the adjacent lot with the entrance off State St.
The Great Lakes Loons have been the Single-A partner of the Los Angeles Dodgers since the team's inception in 2007. Dow Diamond serves as the team's home and also houses the Michigan Baseball Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit public charity, and ESPN 100.9-FM.
