BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -Alfredo González provided the pop in the Barons' lineup, clubbing a three-run home run and driving in four runs in an 8-4 victory over the Jackson Generals on Wednesday night.
The first five innings produced a seesaw affair, with starters Spencer Adams and Brad Keller both surrendering multiple leads. Birmingham got on the board first in the second inning, with a one out RBI groundout from Gonzalez.

But, it wouldn't be long until the powerful Jackson bats got rolling. Evan Marzilli tied the game with his fourth home run of the season to lead off the third. Victor Reyes then followed with a double and came around to score on a Kevin Cron RBI single to give the Generals a 2-1 advantage.
The seesaw continued to tip in the bottom of the fourth, when Mason Robbins scored to tie the game at two. After Robbins walked with one out, Trey Michalczewski grounded out to second. With no one covering third, Robbins sped around second on his way to third and forced an errant throw from Cron at first base, allowing Robbins to score.
Jackson then re-took the lead in the top of the fifth, scoring two runs, courtesy of a Rudy Flores RBI double and a Victor Reyes sac fly.
Finally, the seesaw fell Birmingham's way for good, as the Barons tallied six runs between the fifth and sixth innings. The home team took the lead back in the fifth, scoring three runs, as Cameron Seitzer knocked in one with a single and Hunter Jones doubled home two with what proved to be the game-winning hit.
After Adams got the shutdown inning in the top of the sixth to keep the lead at 5-4, Gonzalez gave the Barons some breathing room, blasting a three-run shot off of reliever Miller Díaz, to provide Birmingham with an 8-4 cushion.
Adams grinded through 6.1 innings, giving up eight hits and four runs, while walking three and striking out four, but did pick up his fourth win in a row, improving to 5-6 on the season in the process.
The victory would not have been possible without the help of Aaron Bummer, who notched his second save of the season, by getting the final eight outs, six of them via the strikeout.
"If the guy out there in front of you is throwing strikes, it's a mindset you use and you go out there and attack these guys, because they could do it, so why can't you," Bummer said of finishing what Adams started. "Spencer grinded through six and a third and you just want to go out there and get the win for him, because last time he went nine, so today we wanted to get him the win that he needed."
The Barons continue the final series of the first half tomorrow night against Jackson. First pitch tomorrow, on Thirsty Thursday at Regions Field, is set for 7:05 p.m. CT.
