Dayton, Ohio-South Bend's Chris Carrier belted a grand slam home run in the fifth inning to break open a close game as the Cubs defeated the Dayton Dragons 10-4 on Sunday afternoon. The Cubs completed a sweep of the four-game series before a crowd of 7,718 at Fifth Third Field.
The score was tied 3-3 after two innings when South Bend's Miguel Amaya connected on a solo home run in the third to make 4-3. South Bend scored five runs in the fifth inning, keyed by Carrier's grand slam, to extend their lead to 9-3.

Dragons starting pitcher Packy Naughton (3-8) worked the first four innings and was charged with the loss. He allowed four runs (three earned) on five hits with one walk and four strikeouts. Austin Orewiler replaced Naughton and worked the fifth inning, allowing five runs on four hits with two walks. Ryan Nutof tossed three innings of relief, allowing one run on four hits without a walk, striking out one. Miguel Aguilar pitched a scoreless ninth inning for the Dragons.
The Dragons collected 10 hits in the game. Andy Sugilio had two hits and two runs batted in. Leandro Santana added two hits including a triple. Jeter Downs also had two hits and a walk while scoring a run when he stole home on the back end of a double steal.
Up Next: The Dragons (0-4, 31-41) remain home and open a new three-game series against the Great Lakes Loons (0-4, 24-48) on Monday night at 7:00. Adrian Rodriguez (3-4, 7.07) will start for the Dragons against Edwin Uceta (1-4, 4.22).
Dragons starting pitchers for the remainder of the series with the Loons will include Andrew Jordan on Tuesday and Hunter Greene on Wednesday.
