Grasshoppers Fall to the IronBirds, 16-14 in a Combined 35 Hits Game

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro Grasshoppers fell to the Aberdeen IronBirds, 16-14 on Wednesday, July 5th. The IronBirds improved to 7-4 in the second half of the season while the Grasshoppers fell to 2-9. Aberdeen outhit Greensboro 20-15 while both teams had one mishap.
Leading at the plate for the Grasshoppers was outfielder Will Matthiessen as he went 4-5 with a grand slam, a double, five RBI, and four runs scored. Following close behind was infielded Francisco Acuna going 3-5 with a double and three runs scored. Jase Bowen also recorded a home run while Eli Wilson roped in a single and Tres Gonzalez tallied a double.
Starting on the mound for Greensboro was righthanded pitcher Jaycob Deese who tallied three strikeouts and gave up four hits and four runs on two innings of work. Deese took the loss for the Grasshoppers and fell to 2-2 on the season.
Cooper Chandler recorded the win for the IronBirds and improved to 5-3 on the season.
