GreenJackets Rally Late to Top Woodpeckers Again

Geraldo Quintero's Clutch Hit Completes Comeback

FAYETTEVILLE, NC: It was another pitcher's duel on Wednesday night at Segra Stadium as the Augusta GreenJackets (36-29) used a late rally to steal game two from the Fayetteville Woodpeckers (30-34), 4-2.

The first runs of the game were manufactured by the Woodpeckers in the bottom of the fourth inning on an RBI double by Joey Loperfido to give Fayetteville the lead at 1-0. They'd bring in Loperfido from second on a single by Tyler Whitaker to up the lead to 2-0.

The GreenJackets came through with their first run of the night courtesy of Kadon Morton who launched a solo homer over the left-field wall with two outs in the fifth to pull Augusta within a run at 2-1.

Rainiery Rodriguez made his first start of the season with the GreenJackets on Wednesday and set the tone for another strong night of pitching for Augusta by tossing five innings with six strikeouts on just three hits and a walk with two runs scoring.

Miguel Peña held the deficit at one into the eighth inning by tossing a perfect sixth and seventh out of the bullpen for the GreenJackets.

In the eighth, Augusta made their move as Cal Conley started the inning with a triple off the wall in center to put himself 90 feet away with nobody out. Fayetteville reliever Alex Santos, however, struck out the next two GreenJacket batters to keep Conley at third with now two outs. The Augusta shortstop would proceed to take matters into his own hands by attempting to steal home. As a result, he forced a balk from Santos on the mound to tie the game at two apiece.

Jose Montilla worked a scoreless eighth by stranding a runner at third base to push the game to the ninth still tied.

In the final frame, the GreenJackets loaded the bases with two outs for Geraldo Quintero, who delivered in the clutch by pushing a single down the third-base line to bring in Victor De Hoyos and Kadon Morton to give Augusta their first lead at 4-2.

Montilla got the first out of the ninth before the Woodpeckers put runners on the corners, moving the winning run to the plate. Rob Griswold came in to finish the job and he got it done by producing a double-play ball off the bat of Tyler Whitaker to cap a 4-2, comeback win for the GreenJackets.

Jose Montilla (1-0) picked up the win for Augusta with Rob Griswold (5) notching the save. Fayetteville reliever Kasey Ford (2-1) was the losing pitcher.

Kadon Morton hit his fourth home run of the season as part of his second consecutive multi-hit game at Segra Stadium. Caleb Durbin finished with two hits of his own while Geraldo Quintero's lone hit delivered the goods for Augusta with his go-ahead, two-run single in the ninth.

The GreenJackets conclude the first half of the season tomorrow night in Fayetteville with Kris Anglin getting the start for Augusta versus Bryant Salgado for the Woodpeckers. First pitch is set for 7:05 pm.
