Greenville Drive defeated the Greensboro Grasshoppers 3-2 in the first game of the series.

The Greenville Drive (18-29, 44-69) welcomed the Greensboro Grasshoppers (21-25,48-63) for a six-game serires with the Drive taking game one 3-2. The Greenville Drive (18-29, 44-69) welcomed the Greensboro Grasshoppers (21-25,48-63) for a six-game serires with the Drive taking game one 3-2.

Greenville’s Wyatt Olds (2-9, 6.60) secured the win after tossing five innings and allowing four hits and one run. Greensboro’s reliever Jack Carey absorbed the loss (4-5, 5.66) after one inning where he allowed two hits and three runs.

Greensboro struck early taking a 1-0 lead in the first on a fielder’s choice by designated hitter Abrahan Gutierrez that scored center fielder Hudson Head.

The next three innings were silent until the Drive’s Nathan Hickey hit his fourth home run of the season with a deep three run shot to left field into the seats of the Green Monster giving the Drive a 3-1 advantage after five.

The Grasshoppers answered by a Luke Brown sacrifice fly that allowed Eli Wilson to score, but it wouldn’t be enough to take home the win.

The Drive continues the series against the Greensboro Grasshoppers tomorrow at 7:05. Greenville will send Yusniel Padron-Artiles (3-10, 5.78) to the mound to take on fellow righty Justin Meis (2-4, 5.47).
