Trent Grisham delivered two RBI singles to hand the Biloxi Shuckers (65-49, 24-20) a 2-1 victory in the series finale over the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (45-67, 17-27) on Monday night at MGM Park.
The two sided traded runs in the third inning. Justin Twine lifted his second home run of the series out to left field in the top of the third, but the Shuckers answered with Grisham's first run-scoring single to plate Max McDowell in the home half of the frame.
RHP Thomas Jankins twirled six quality innings for the Shuckers. The righty scattered six hits with the only damage coming from Twine's home run in the third. Jumbo Shrimp starter RHP Cody Poteet tossed 61 of 69 pitches for strikes over his six frames to hold serve. Poteet fanned seven, as both starters exited in a tie contest.
RHP Jeff Ames (W, 1-0) turned in his second straight outing with two scoreless innings of relief for Biloxi, while RHP Jose Pena dealt a clean seventh. In the bottom of the eighth, the Shuckers manufactured their run off RHP Reilly Hovis (L, 0-2). Pinch-hitter Corey Ray drew a one-out walk and advanced to second base on a Hovis balk. Grisham then stepped up and sprayed his second RBI single into centerfield to plate the go-ahead run.
RHP Jon Olczak (S, 3) locked down the ninth inning. He stranded a two-out double by Eric Jagielo when he induced a pop out of Sharif Othman to end the game. The Shuckers wrapped up their season series with Jacksonville having taken 13 of the 20 meetings.
The Shuckers enjoy an off day before starting a five-game set on the road with the Tennessee Smokies. RHP Marcos Diplan (1-2, 3.38) gets the ball in game one, while the Smokies have not named a starter. First pitch is set for 6:00 PM CT.
