Erie flattened the Bowie Baysox 11-1 in front of a packed house at UPMC Park Monday night behind a masterful performance from starting pitcher Matt Hall.
Daz Cameron continued his hot streak in the first inning on a two-run bomb he launched on Matthew Grimes. Erie led 2-0 after one inning of play.
Cameron added another run on a deeply hit double to right field in the second inning, scoring Cam Gibson to elevate the Erie lead to 3-0.
The SeaWolves added three more runs in an eventful bottom of the 4th, all on Bowie starter Matthew Grimes. Jake Rogers led the inning off with a single to center field, followed by a Kody Eaves fly out to center. Chad Sedio smashed a double to deep center, scoring Rogers to give Erie the 4-0 lead. The SeaWolves kept the inning going with a Gibson single to center field. Freshly-minted Eastern League All Star Danny Woodrow sliced an RBI single into right field, but was caught in a run down. After the fourth inning, Erie enjoyed a 6-0 lead.
Matt Hall carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning, but gave up an Erick Salcedo single in right field. Hall ended up working the rest of the inning scoreless, eventually taken off of the mound after laboring 6.1 IP scoreless with only two hits, one walk and eight strikeouts.
Erie kept their bats alive into the seventh inning with Michael Kelly on the mound for Bowie. The righty walked Cameron and Lester to lead off the home half of the inning, then surrendered a Will Maddox RBI-single. Jake Rogers smacked in Lester to to bring the score up to 8-0. After Eaves flew out, Sedio singled in another run into left center. Cam Gibson blooped a high fly ball into shallow right where Anthony Santander could not handle the catch, dropping in for a two-run double. The SeaWolves closed out the seventh inning with an 11-0 lead.
Bowie got a run back in the ninth inning on Trent Szkutnik, but Erie ended the game with an 11-1 triumph.
Hall (4-2) cruised to a win, while Grimes (0-2) lost after pitching 3.2 IP with eight hits, six runs, five earned on one walk with five strikeouts.
The SeaWolves (38-43) and Baysox (36-46) return to UPMC Park at 7:05 PM on Tuesday. RHP and Eastern League All Star Kyle Funkhouser (4-4, 3.35 ERA) takes the mound for Erie in the series finale.
