Hammerheads Fall to Threshers 9-2 in Rain-Shortened Game

JUPITER, FL – The Jupiter Hammerheads (12-23, 49-52) fell to the Clearwater Threshers (20-14, 60-40) by a final score of 9-2 on Friday night at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium.

In the top of the first inning, the Threshers’ offense scored first in a big way after a 47-minute delayed start. With no outs and the bases loaded, Jonathan Hogart hit a grand slam over the left field wall off Jupiter starting pitcher Dameivi Tineo (L, 1-5) as Clearwater took a 4-0 lead.

The Hammerheads responded immediately in the bottom of the first inning. Three straight singles started the inning to load the bases against Clearwater starting pitcher Matthew Fisher. Luis Cova hit a sacrifice fly to right field and Yoffry Solano beat out an infield single to plate the first two Hammerheads runs and made the score 4-2 after the first inning.

Clearwater added another run in the top of the second inning when Jonathan Hogart hit an RBI single to put the Threshers ahead by a 5-2 score. The Threshers got two more runs across home plate in the top of the third inning thanks to a solo home run by Matthew Ferrara and an RBI single by Robert Phelps as Clearwater jumped to a 7-2 lead.

Tineo, who celebrated his 23^rd birthday, pitched 3 2/3 innings pitched and allowed seven runs, six earned runs, eight hits, two home runs, two walks, one hit-by-pitch, and struck out seven Threshers.

After the game settled down in the fourth and fifth innings, Clearwater extended their lead in the top of the sixth inning against Jupiter relief pitcher Davidxon Lara. With one out, Nolan Beltran hit a double and Hogart followed with an RBI single for his sixth RBI of the game. Two batters later, Macon Winslow hit an RBI triple to left-center field to give the Threshers a 9-2 lead.

With two outs in the top of the sixth inning, the game went into a rain delay and ultimately the game was called due to wet grounds as the Hammerheads fell to the Threshers 9-2 on a wet Saturday night. With the loss, the Hammerheads lose the series and the regular season series to the Threshers.
