SAN JOSE, Calif. - Garrett Hampson, the Cal League's reigning Player of the Week, slugged a two-run home run to lead the Lancaster JetHawks to a 5-3 win over the San Jose Giants on Tuesday night at Municipal Stadium.
Hampson broke a 2-2 tie in the fourth inning with his seventh home run of the season to give the JetHawks (67-55, 29-23) a 4-2 lead. The home run came against Giants starter Garrett Williams (2-1) who was named the Cal League's Pitcher of the Week on Monday. Hampson finished 2-for-4 with a walk and has five hits in the series.
Jesus Tinoco (9-4) carried the JetHawks early in the game in his 21st start of the season. After giving up a leadoff double in the first inning, the right-hander struck out five in a row. He ended up with a season-high nine strikeouts over six innings.
Tinoco allowed two unearned runs in the third inning to give San Jose a 2-0 lead but did not allow another run in the game. He allowed just four hits.
Wes Rogers put the JetHawks on the board in the fourth inning with a RBI single. He promptly stole second base for his 61st steal of the season to tie the Emilio Bonifácio for the JetHawks franchise record set in 2006. Lancaster added an unearned run on a Williams error.
The Giants put up a run in the in seventh inning against Marc Magliaro but the JetHawks got it back on a Daza RBI-single in the ninth.
Alexander Guillen pitched a scoreless ninth for his eighth save.
The series continues on Wednesday night at Municipal Stadium. Brandon Gold (3-0) will start for the JetHawks against Matt Solter (4-1). First pitch is 7 p.m.
