RICHMOND, Va. – The Richmond Flying Squirrels rallied with two runs in the ninth to beat the Binghamton Rumble Ponies, 7-6, capped by a walk-off single by Parks Harber on Wednesday night at CarMax Park.

The Flying Squirrels (29-11) picked up their 15th come-from-behind win of the year and improved to 17-3 at CarMax Park this season.

Trailing, 6-5, entering the bottom of the ninth, Ty Hanchey led off with a solo homer against Binghamton reliever Saul Garcia (Loss, 0-1) to tie the score. It was Hanchey’s first Double-A home run.

Jack Payton followed with a walk, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Maui Ahuna and stole third before Garcia recorded a strikeout for the second out.

Harber bounced a single to center, scoring Payton from third to win the game. It was his second walk-off hit this season. He went 4-for-5 in the game with a homer, two RBIs and a run scored.

Binghamton opened a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. After two walks, Nick Lorusso hit a two-out single before a second run scored the next play on an error.

Richmond tied the game, 2-2, in the bottom of the second. Charlie Szykowny led off with an infield single and scored from first on a double by Adrian Sugastey.

After a walk, Payton hit an RBI single to even the score.

The Rumble Ponies (14-27) moved back in front, 5-2, in the top of the third with a two-out, three-run homer by JT Schwartz.

Richmond starter Matt Wilkinson allowed a season-high five runs (four earned) over three innings with four strikeouts and a season-high three walks.

The Flying Squirrels closed the score to 5-4 in the bottom of the fourth with a sacrifice fly by Payton and a run-scoring groundout by Zane Zielinski.

The Rumble Ponies pushed their lead to 6-4 in the top of the fifth inning, scoring a run on a double-play groundout.

Harber led off the bottom of the fifth with a solo homer to start the outing for Binghamton reliever Gabriel Rodriguez, closing the score to 6-5. It was Harber’s sixth homer of the season and his fifth over his last seven games.

Will Bednar pitched 1.2 scoreless relief innings for the Flying Squirrels. Ben Peterson threw a scoreless eighth inning with two strikeouts. Tyler Vogel (Win, 2-0) worked a 1-2-3 top of the ninth with two strikeouts.

Jonah Cox went 0-for-5 to snap his 11-game hitting streak. It was the third time in his 36 games played this year that Cox has been held hitless.

The series continues on Thursday night. Lefty Cesar Perdomo (2-1, 4.65) will start for the Flying Squirrels opposed by Rumble Ponies right-hander R.J. Gordon (0-2, 24.30). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at CarMax Park.
