Hatcher's walk-off single seals 6-5 victory over Hooks

FRISCO, Texas (May 16, 2025) - Josh Hatcher lined a walk-off single in the bottom of the 11th to push the Frisco RoughRiders over the Corpus Christi Hooks 6-5 on Friday night from Riders Field.
Frisco (22-15) was once down to their final out when Abimelec Ortiz drilled a solo home run, tying the game at four in the ninth and forcing extra innings. Ortiz's blast was his second game-tying or walk-off home run in the ninth inning this week.
Corpus Christi (11-26) struck first in extra innings when Anthony Sherwin served an RBI single in the top of the 11th inning to grab a 5-4 lead.
Frisco then loaded the bases in the bottom of the 11th after walks to Ian Moller and Aaron Zavala. Sebastian Walcott then plated Frainyer Chavez on a game-tying fielder's choice and Hatcher delivered the walk-off single to right field.
The Riders scored five of the game's last six runs after the Hooks led by as much as 4-1.
Corpus Christi's first four hits went for extra bases, starting with a Zach Cole solo home run in the top of the first to take a 1-0 lead.
After Frisco's Cam Cauley rifled a game-tying sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth, the Hooks hit back-to-back homers in the top of the seventh. Ryan Wrobleski clipped a two-run homer and then Austin Deming blasted a solo shot to snatch a 3-1 lead.
In the bottom of the seventh, Ortiz ripped a two-run single to pull the Riders to within a run, setting up his game-tying long ball in the bottom of the ninth.
Hatcher's walk-off allowed RoughRiders reliever Janser Lara (1-0) to earn his first Minor League victory in almost 2,500 days. Lara pitched two innings, allowing one unearned run and striking out four. Hooks reliever Patrick Halligan (0-1) suffered the loss, allowing his second walk-off hit this week.
Frisco starter Ben Anderson captured his first quality start of the season and seventh with the RoughRiders, pitching six innings of one-run ball.
Notes to Know:
-Hatcher's walk-off marks his second walk-off hit as a RoughRider and first since his three-run walk-off homer versus Amarillo on April 28th, 2024.
-Two of Ortiz's last seven home runs have come with the Riders down to their final out. Ortiz's first home run with two outs in the bottom of the ninth came in Game 2 of the 2024 Texas League Division Series versus Midland. He then hit the walk-off sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth inning.
-The RoughRiders have hit seven home runs in the ninth inning, tied with Triple-A Scranton Wilkes-Barre for the most in Minor League Baseball this season.
-Janser Lara picked up his first Minor League win since August 31st, 2018 with Class-A Lexington against Greenville.
-The Riders played their first extra-inning game, becoming the last Texas League team to play bonus baseball in 2025.
The Riders and Hooks clash again at 7:05 p.m. on Saturday, May 17th from Riders Field. Frisco sends out LHP Mitch Bratt (2-1, 1.99) against Corpus Christi LHP Trey Dombroski (1-3, 3.63).
