‘Burgers Fall to Bowling Green Thursday

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — The Spartanburgers’ three-game win streak was snapped by Bowling Green Thursday. The Hot Rods (26-12, 73-31) bested the ‘Burgers (13-25, 47-57) by seven, a 10-3 final at Bowling Green Ballpark.

Both teams stranded runners on base in the first. Hub City fell behind in the second. Kamdyn Perry walked the bases loaded with no outs, but he only gave up one run on a double play.

Two innings later, Perry (L, 0-4) walked the leadoff man, then gave up a two-run homer to Ryan McCoy. Perry proceeded to hit a pair of batters, who both moved into scoring position on a double steal. A wild pitch plated a third run. Perry then walked Juanfel Peguero. With runners on the corners, the Hot Rods attempted another double steal; Peguero was thrown out at second, but Bryan Broecker crossed the plate uncontested to increase Bowling Green’s lead to 5-0. Over the course of the game, Hub City allowed nine stolen bases, the most in a single game in franchise history.

Bowling Green starter Trevor Harrison (W, 3-1) protected the lead with four more scoreless innings. The right-hander struck out seven and gave up two hits and two walks. Jackson Lancaster took over for a scoreless sixth with two strikeouts.

Luke Savage finished off the fourth, and completed a scoreless fifth. Cole Roland took over in the sixth. With one out, Noah Myers singled and stole second. He scored on a two-out RBI single from Peguero. Jhon Diaz followed up with a run-scoring double, upping the Hot Rods lead to seven.

The Spartanburgers offense finally found the scoreboard against Lancaster in the seventh. Marcos Torres led off the inning with a solo homer. After a bunt single from Antonis Macias, Cal Stark left the yard. Lancaster struck out the side afterwards.

Tony Santa Maria immediately struck back against Roland with a leadoff solo homer in the bottom of the seventh. After a single and a lineup, McCoy ripped his second home run of the night, and Bowling Green reached 10 runs. Kai Wynyard finished off the seventh and tossed a scoreless eighth. Garrett Gainey handled the eighth and ninth for the Hot Rods.

Game four of the series is scheduled for 7:35 p.m. ET Friday. Caden Scarborough (0-4, 3.71 ERA) and Jack Kartsonas (6-3, 4.43 ERA) are the scheduled starters.
