(Burlington, IA) - John Schuknecht and Brennan Morgan both homered but the Burlington Bees (51-69) fell 5-2 to the Cedar Rapids Kernels (63-58) at Community Field on Tuesday night.

After being held to one run yesterday, the Cedar Rapids Kernels opened Tuesday's game with a three run first inning. With one out, Christian Caveness walked and then came home to score when the next batter, Caleb Hamilton, homered to left, giving the Kernels a 2-0 lead. The Kernels added one more in the inning when Trey Cabbage singled in Shane Carrier, who doubled, extending the lead to 3-0.
After the Kernels added their fourth run of the game on an Aaron Whitefield RBI triple, the Bees got on the board in the bottom of the second inning on a Brennan Morgan home run, cutting the deficit to 4-1. The Bees only other run of the ballgame came in the fifth inning, thanks to a John Schuknecht solo home run, cutting the Kernels' lead to 4-2.
The Bees would not get anything else going offensively as Cedar Rapids added a run in the top of the ninth, beating the Bees 5-2. Kernels' starter Bryan Sammons (2-0) earned the win while Luis Madero (0-2) was charged with the loss and Hector Lujan (13) picked up the save.
The Bees and the Kernels will continue the series on Wednesday for Carpetland USA kids eat free Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at Community Field. Jose Suarez will make the start for the Bees against Tyler Watson for the Kernels. For tickets, visit gobees.com or stop by the Bees' office. For more information, call the Bees at (319)-754-5705.
