San Bernardino, CA- The Inland Empire 66ers of San Bernardino bounced back with a 9-7 win over the Visalia Rawhide on Saturday after dropping the first two games of the series. Every 66ers' hitter had at least one hit in addition to taking eight walks and two hit batsmen.
The Sixers trailed 1-0 entering the bottom of the third but Jordan Serena tripled against starter Bo Takahashi (5-6) who walked the next two batters to load the bags. The Sixers tied the game on back-to-back RBI ground outs and made it 3-1 on Jack Kruger's RBI single, his first Cal League hit. The teams were not finished. In the top fourth the Rawhide (50-49, 14-15) scored five unearned runs against Sixers' starter Ryan Clark. The frame was highlighted by a RBI triple by Fernery Ozuna and a three-run homer for Jason Morozowski, his fifth. Inland Empire (47-52, 17-12) bounced right back with aid from Takahashi as he walked two and hit two batters in the frame as well as delivering a run scoring wild pitch. The Sixers took a 7-6 lead on Jared Walsh's two-run single, the lone hit in the five-run frame for the Sixers. Takahashi has walked 19 batters in 75.2 IP this season for Visalia and ten of them have come at San Manuel Stadium over two starts. Inland Empire added a run in the fifth when Serena walked with two outs, stole second (6) and scored on Jahmai Jones RBI single for an 8-6 lead. The Rawhide got a run in the sixth on a RBI single from Galli Cribbs Jr. making it 8-7. The Rawhide's best late threat came in the eighth when they loaded the bases but Nathan Bates struck out the side to escape unscathed. Inland Empire added another run in the eighth when Walsh doubled and scored on Kyle Survance Jr.'s RBI single. Garrett Nuss (5-2) got the win out of the pen for the Sixers allowing a run on three hits in 2.1IP with no walks and four Ks. Samil De Los Santos picked up his third save with a scoreless ninth. Matt McPhearson had a three-for-three game and was on base all four plate appearances for the Rawhide. Mark Karaviotis hit his first Cal League homer for Visalia.
