IronPigs Rally to Down Red Wings in Extras on Opening Day

Rochester, New York (March 31, 2023) – In a rousing start to the 2023 season, the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (1-0) used late heroics to topple the Rochester Red Wings (0-1) 8-7 in 10 innings on Friday evening at Innovative Field.
After falling behind 3-0 early, the IronPigs popped a three-spot in the fifth inning to tie the game. John Hicks began the frame with a double and two outs later, Simon Muzziotti singled him home. Scott Kingery followed with a towering two-run homer, his first of the season, to tie the game at 3-3.
Muzziotti vaulted the IronPigs in front in the seventh. Esteban Quiroz singled to start the inning and after a strikeout, Muzziotti tripled him home and then scored on the play himself on a throwing error to make it 5-3.
Rochester rallied to reclaim the lead in the bottom of the seventh. Darren Baker legged out an RBI infield single before Stone Garrett brought home two with a base hit to put Rochester ahead 8-7.
Leading off the ninth, Aramis Garcia blasted a solo homer, his first of the season, to tie the game at 6-6.
The game proceeded to the tenth after Rochester was unable to score in the bottom of the ninth. With the placed runner aboard, Vimael Machin unloaded a two-run shot to rightfield, his first of the season, giving the IronPigs an 8-6 lead.
McKinley Moore (1-0) allowed the placed runner to score in the bottom of the tenth, but allowed no further damage to hold on for the win. Moore worked two innings, allowing an unearned run on a hit and two walks, striking out one.
Jesus Liranzo (0-1) suffered the loss for Rochester, allowing two runs (one earned) on two hits, striking out two.
The IronPigs and Red Wings play game two of their three game series on Saturday, April 1, at Innovative Field. First pitch is slated for 1:05 p.m.
