IronPigs Season Opening Winning Streak Snapped at Three
Allentown, Pennsylvania (April 5, 2023) – The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (3-1) saw their season opening winning streak come to a close with a 7-4 loss to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (2-3) on Wednesday night at Coca-Cola Park. The RailRiders jumped out in front early with a four-spot in the second inning.
Allentown, Pennsylvania (April 5, 2023) – The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (3-1) saw their season opening winning streak come to a close with a 7-4 loss to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (2-3) on Wednesday night at Coca-Cola Park.
The RailRiders jumped out in front early with a four-spot in the second inning. Rodolfo Duran belted a three-run homer, his first of the season, to start the scoring. Oswald Peraza scored later in the inning on a wild pitch.
The IronPigs scratched a run back in the bottom of the second. Jim Haley singled off the third base bag to start the inning and went to third an out later on a John Hicks double. Dustin Peterson then legged out an RBI infield single to make it 4-1.
Duran struck again in the third for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, this time roping an RBI single. Elijah Dunham beat out an infield single later in the frame to bring home another run to make it 6-1 RailRiders.
Haley smoked a solo homer in the fourth, his first of the season, and Vimael Machin drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the fifth to bring the IronPigs to back to within three at 6-3.
Duran continued his torrid day for the RailRiders with an RBI double in the seventh, giving him five RBI on the night and making it 7-3.
Weston Wilson tried to kickstart a late rally in the eighth when he walloped a solo homer, his first of the season, but the IronPigs could not muster anything else late and fell 7-4.
Aaron McGarrity (1-0) secured the win for the RailRiders. He authored 1.2 scoreless innings, striking out one without allowing a baserunner. Greg Weissert picked up his first save of the season for the RailRiders, striking out three over 1.1 scoreless innings.
James McArthur (0-1) suffered the loss for Lehigh Valley, allowing five runs on five hits and three walks, striking out two in 2.2 innings.
The ‘Pigs and RailRiders continue their series on Thursday, April 6, at Coca-Cola Park. First pitch is slated for 6:45 p.m.
