IronPigs See Bulls Slip by Late in Second Straight Defeat

Durham, North Carolina (April 13, 2023) – Despite rallying from a two-run deficit, the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (5-6) ultimately lost to the Durham Bulls (5-6) 4-3 on Thursday night at Durham Bulls Athletic Park.

After a scoreless first three innings, Durham got on the board first in the fourth. With two on and one out, Tristan Gray smacked an RBI double, placing runners at second and third. Nick Dini followed with a sacrifice fly to make it 2-0. Lehigh Valley got one of those runs back immediately in the fifth. John Hicks walked with two away before Esteban Quiroz drove him in with a double.

The IronPigs rallied for the lead in the sixth. Vimael Machin singled with one out and Weston Wilson then roped a double to drive him in and tie the game. A groundball moved Wilson to third before Jordan Qsar beat out an infield single to score Wilson and put the IronPigs ahead 3-2.

The lead was short lived as Durham jumped back in front in the last of the sixth. Gray walloped a two-out, two-run homer, his second of the year, to put the Bulls on top for good, 4-3.

Ben Heller (1-0) earned the win for Durham after allowing a run in one inning on three hits, striking out one. Chris Muller (S, 1) picked up the save with a scoreless ninth, striking out two while allowing a walk. Jakob Hernandez (0-1) suffered the loss for the IronPigs, allowing two runs on one hit and walk, striking out one in one inning of work.

The IronPigs and Bulls continue their series on Friday, April 13 at 6:35 p.m. from Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
