IronPigs to celebrate by changing name to LAGERS

Allentown, Pennsylvania (21 May 2021) – BEER LOVERS UNITE! The Lehigh Valley IronPigs will be known as the “Lagers” presented by Yuengling on Saturday, July 24 when they take the field against the Worcester Red Sox at 6:35 p.m. The IronPigs are changing their name to “Lagers” to celebrate the rich history of the beer throughout the Lehigh Valley and the Philadelphia region.

Since the 1840’s, Lager has been a prominent fixture in the Lehigh Valley. German and Danish breweries started making lager, which required a much more cold-storage time to ferment and condition. The Lieberman Brewery became Allentown’s first brewery in 1845 to produce lager beer. The Kuebler Brewery set up shop in Easton in 1852, which was followed by a brewery in Bethlehem in 1856. A local saloon owner, John Schilling began the Brewery in Bethlehem.

In the 1860’s, lager beer exceeded the production of a traditional “ale” beer. The reason why it became the forefront of the beer industry was due to artificial refrigeration.

The IronPigs will be wearing “Lagers” jerseys. A jersey auction presented by M&T Bank will take place during the game. Proceeds from the jersey auction will benefit the Autism Society of Lehigh Valley. Autism Society of the Lehigh Valley is a non-profit affiliate whose mission is dedicated to improving the lives of individuals with autism and their families in the region.

Tickets are on sale NOW for fans to see the “Lagers” take the field against the Worcester Red Sox. Fans can purchase their tickets by clicking here or by calling the IronPigs at 610-841-PIGS (7447) and select option 2 or 3.

Fireworks will be held after the game presented by Yuengling.
