IronPigs Wrap Up First Half, Drop Series Finale to WooSox

Worcester, MA (June 25, 2023) – The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (36-37) had no answer for the bats of the
Worcester Red Sox (39-36) on Sunday afternoon at Polar Park, falling 9-2 in the series finale.
A Stephen Scott sacrifice fly got the WooSox on the board in the second before they did the heavy lifting in
the third. Back-to-back doubles form Niko Goodrum and Wilyer Abreu started the third to plate a run. With
two outs, Narciso Crook tripled to drive in Abreu before doubles from Daniel Palka and Scott plated two more
to make it 5-0.
The IronPigs got on the board in the top of the fifth on a Weston Wilson solo homer, his 16th of the season.
The WooSox got into the long ball mood themselves in the last of the fifth as Scott and Nick Sogard each hit
two-run homers to make it 9-1 Worcester.
Drew Ellis smashed a solo homer for the IronPigs leading off the eighth to make it 9-2.
Chase Shugart (2-1) went two innings out of the bullpen to earn the win for the WooSox, allowing one run on
one hit and two walks, striking out one.
Noah Skirrow (6-3) suffered the loss for the IronPigs, allowing five runs in four innings on seven hits and
three walks.
After off-days on Monday and Tuesday, the IronPigs return home to Coca-Cola Park on Wednesday, June 28,
to kick off the second half of the season with a six-game series against the Rochester Red Wings. First pitch is
slated for 7:05 p.m.
