ROUND ROCK, Texas - The Round Rock Jackalopes (27-29) capped off a perfect What Could Have Been Weekend with a 4-2 win over the New Orleans Baby Cakes (18-36) on Saturday night. The performance marked Round Rock's ninth straight at home.
Rehabbing Texas Rangers RHP Tyson Ross (2-0, 5.27) earned the win after holding the Baby Cakes to two runs on five hits and four walks in 5.1 innings. The righty recorded a pair of strikeouts in a performance in which he threw 93 total pitches, with 52 landing in the strike zone. New Orleans starter RHP Stephen Fife (4-3, 4.14) took the loss after giving up all four Round Rock runs on seven hits in five innings of work.
Both teams scored a pair of runs in the third inning. First up, New Orleans DH Chad Hinshaw worked a leadoff walk before an RBI triple off the bat of 3B Steve Lombardozzi put the visitors on the board. Former Round Rock C Tomás Telis followed up with a double that extended his team's lead to 2-0.
However, in the bottom of the frame, RF Preston Beck lined a one-out double to right field before CF Drew Robinson sent a triple screaming down the right field foul line. SS Jurickson Profar reset the score to 2-2 with an RBI single in the next at-bat.
Robinson's heroics carried over into the fifth inning. Beck recorded a leadoff double before Robinson stepped to the plate and launched a two-run homer onto the berm in left field, giving Round Rock a 4-2 edge. RHP James Dykstra and RHP Tyler Wagner teamed up for 3.2 scoreless innings of relief to preserve the win.
With What Could Have Been Weekend now in the books, the Round Rock Express will return to form in Sunday's series finale against the New Orleans Baby Cakes.
