Jean Pinto Tabbed Low-A East League Pitcher of the Week

SALISBURY, MD - The Delmarva Shorebirds are pleased to announce that Jean Pinto has been named Low-A East League Pitcher of the Week for the week of August 2 through August 8.

Pinto is the fourth Shorebird to garner a weekly award (Gunnar Hunderson, Jordan Westburg, TT Bowens) and the first Delmarva pitcher to collect a Pitcher of the Week accolade.

In just his second start with the Shorebirds, Pinto fired six shutout innings on August 3 against the Down East Wood Ducks. Pinto struck out six batters without issuing a walk while allowing just two hits. Pinto allowed both hits in the first inning and then proceeded to mow down the next 15 batters in order. Pinto needed just 60 pitches en route to his dominant outing.

Although he did not earn the win, the Shorebirds did pick up the victory 4-3 thanks to a Darell Hernaiz walk-off single in the ninth.

Added to the Delmarva roster on July 27, Pinto was acquired by the Orioles in December 2020 along with RHP Garrett Stallings in exchange for SS Jose Iglesias.

The Shorebirds are back in action on Tuesday, August 10 on the road against the Lynchburg Hillcats at 6:30 p.m. at the Bank of the James Stadium.
