Jim Haley’s RBI Triple Not Enough as IronPigs Succumb Late to WooSox 

Allentown, Pennsylvania (April 18, 2023) – The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (5-10) saw a late lead slip away as the Worcester Red Sox (7-8) rallied to score four runs in the seventh inning to down the IronPigs 5-2 on Tuesday night at Coca-Cola Park.

Both sides were silent through the first two innings offensively. In the second, Caleb Hamilton and Ryan Fitzgerald singled to open the inning. David Hamilton bunted them to second and third before Bobby Dalbec scored Hamilton with a groundout.

The IronPigs charged back in the fifth. Jordan Qsar walked before Jim Haley belted an RBI triple to tie the game at one. After a walk and strikeout, Vimael Machin lined an RBI single to score Haley and put the IronPigs on top 2-1.

Worcester mounted their comeback in the seventh. With the bases loaded and two outs, Wilyer Abreu drew a walk to force in the tying run. Jorge Alfaro then unloaded the bases with a double, making it 5-2 Worcester.

Abreu provided some insurance for the WooSox in the ninth, belting a solo homer, his first of the season, to make it 6-2.

Andrew Politi (2-0) secured the win for Worcester, working two scoreless innings, allowing two hits and a walk while striking out one.

Jeff Hoffman (0-2) suffered the loss for the IronPigs, getting tagged with three runs in two-thirds of an inning on one hit and two walks, striking out one.

James McArthur ended up not factoring into the decision for the IronPigs but excelled in his start. He allowed just one run over five frames on five hits, striking out six without issuing a walk.

The IronPigs continue their series against the WooSox on Wednesday, April 19. First pitch is slated for 6:45 p.m.
