BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Chicago White Sox announced today that Pitcher Jordan Guerrero has been named White Sox Organizational Pitcher of the Month for games being played during the month of June. Guerrero made five starts in June, tallying a 4-0 record, with a 1.23 ERA.
"It's a great honor to be selected as Pitcher of the Month by the White Sox organization," Guerrero said. "I've been working well with (pitching coach) Jose (Bautista) to develop my game and I am thrilled the results are showing."
Over the course of the month of June, Guerrero gave up only 25 hits and five earned runs, while walking four and striking out 26 in 36.2 innings pitched. The lefty tossed a complete game, two-hit shutout against Mobile on June 13, which marked the first complete game shutout of his career. From the second inning of his start on June 8 at Tennessee, until the sixth inning of his start on June 22 at Montgomery, Guerrero pitched 20 consecutive scoreless innings, the longest streak for a Barons' pitcher this season.
A 15th round pick in 2012 out of Moorkpark High School in California, Guerrero currently leads the Southern League with 100 strikeouts. Guerrero has also not allowed more than two runs in nine out of his last 10 starts, lowering his season ERA from 7.01 to 3.54 in the process.
The Barons will conclude their home series against the Biloxi Shuckers with an Independence Day celebration, tonight at 6:30 p.m. CT with
