BIRMINGHAM, AL - The Birmingham Barons are proud to announce that pitcher Jordan Stephens has been named the Southern League's Pitcher of the Week.
Stephens, who made his season debut Saturday, made quick work of the Chattanooga Lookouts during his six innings of work. The right hander took a no-hitter into the fifth inning, when he allowed a single to T.J. White. But that would be all Stephens would allow, striking out six, while only walking one and throwing 87 pitches.

Stephens, 24, had been on the Disabled List since opening day after suffering an injury during Spring Training. The fifth round pick of the White Sox in 2015 spent all of last season with the Winston-Salem Dash, compiling a 7-10 record with a 3.45 ERA, while striking out 155 in 141 innings pitched. The right-hander attended Rice University, where he was named to the All-Conference USA First-Team in 2015.
Stephens becomes the first Baron to be named a Southern League Player of the Week this season. Starting pitcher Tyler Danish and outfielder Courtney Hawkins took home the honor during the 2016 season.
The Barons will be back in action Monday night in Tennessee for the first two of six games in four days, with first pitch of game one scheduled for 5:00 p.m. CT. Right-hander Matt Cooper (1-3 3.61) will take the ball for the Barons and fellow righty Zach Hedges (5-4 3.86) will get the ball for the Smokies. Starting pitchers for both teams in game two of the doubleheader tonight are listed as TBA. Curt Bloom will bring you all the action starting with the Coca-Cola pregame show starting at 4:50 p.m. beginning on the iHeart Radio app and also on 105.5 WERC at 7 p.m. ct.
Following the five game road trip, the Barons will return home for a ten game homestand to wrap up the first half, beginning with five against the Mobile BayBears, with first pitch on Friday evening at 7:05 p.m. In addition to our Friday Night Fireworks, the first 1,000 fans 13 and older will receive a Rickwood Stadium 3-D Collectible item. Other highlights of the series include a mini bat giveaway on Saturday, a Salute to Armed Forces Sunday, Kids Day on Monday, June 12th and T-Shirt Tuesday to wrap up the series.
