Bowie, MD (August 6, 2026) – The Chesapeake Baysox, the Double-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, lost late to the Harrisburg Senators, the Double-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals, in a 3-2 final Thursday.
Chesapeake (20-16, 49-55) fell behind on a game-changing home run with one out in the top of the ninth. With the Baysox up 2-0, the Senators' Sam Brown hit a three-run homer to take their only lead. Chesapeake was retired in order in the bottom of the ninth.
Before the dramatic end, left-handed starter Joseph Dzierwa tossed six scoreless innings. Dzierwa, the Orioles' No. 4 prospect via MLB.com, gave up four hits and no walks to nine strikeouts, fanning six of the final 10 batters he faced.
Combined with his start at Altoona last week, Dzierwa hasn't given up an earned run in his last two starts, striking out 14 batters to six hits conceded in the 11-inning span.
Another stellar start in the books for lefty Joseph Dzierwa:

Thursday's game remained scoreless until the sixth thanks to Dzierwa and Harrisburg left-handed starter Josh Hartle. The Senators got a pair of runners in scoring position with no outs in the second, but Dzierwa induced a groundout and inning-ending double play with an outfield assist from Brandon Butterworth. Butterworth caught a lineout in center field and threw a bullet to home, catching a tagging runner for what would've been the first score of the game.

Hartle retired the first 13 batters he faced before Aron Estrada and Thomas Sosa hit back-to-back fifth-inning singles.
Hartle, who conceded one run across five and a third innings, pitched into the sixth where the Baysox claimed a 2-0 lead. Hartle gave up a leadoff single to Adam Retzbach before righty Robert Cranz relieved him. Cranz pitched to a fielder's choice that replaced Retzbach with Butterworth on the bases, then Wehiwa Aloy walked, and De Los Santos brought them both home on a two-run single to center field.

Chesapeake's lead held until the ninth as right-handed reliever Richard Guasch pitched two scoreless innings and earned three strikeouts. Guasch, who pitched for Harrisburg from 2022-2024, didn't give up a hit.
Right-hander Ryan Long (L, 1-2) pitched the top of the ninth where a one-out double and walk proceeded Brown's home run for a 3-2 Harrisburg lead.
Harrisbug right-hander Luke Young (W, 3-0) tossed two scoreless innings, including inducing a groundout and a pair of strikeouts in the bottom of the ninth.
The Baysox continue their seven-game series against the Senators Friday. Chesapeake is set to send out right-hander Pat Reilly (0-1, 8.68 ERA) as Harrisburg is scheduled to start right-hander Yohel Tejada Jr. (0-1, 5.40 ERA). First pitch Friday is set for 7:05 pm from Prince George’s Stadium.
