AMARILLO, Texas (July 14, 2023) – The Frisco RoughRiders used a steady offensive attack to drop the Amarillo Sod Poodles 8-3 on Friday night from HODGETOWN.
Frisco (7-6, 38-43) struck first in the second inning with an RBI fielder's choice from Josh Hatcher, starting his strong night.
In the third, they added on with a Thomas Saggese RBI single and another RBI fielder's choice, this one from Kellen Strahm, to make it 3-0.
After a solo homer from Amarillo's (8-5, 42-40) Seth Beer in the fourth, Frisco added with a Hatcher RBI single to push the lead to 4-1.
Leading 4-2 in the fifth, Saggese ripped a two-run single to left and the Frisco lead pushed to 6-2.
Hatcher put the finishing touches on the offense with a two-run home run in the ninth. He drove in four and now has 16 RBIs in his 13 games with Frisco.
Saggese extended his hitting streak to 10 games while Luisangel Acuña doubled to set his hitting streak at 14 games.
On the mound, Ryan Garcia started and went four innings, allowing just one run for Frisco before giving way to Aidan Anderson. Grant Wolfram (5-0) then entered and allowed just one run over two innings while striking out four. Nick Starr and Antoine Kelly both fired shutout innings from the bullpen as well.
In the defeat, Luke Albright (5-3) started and went 4.1 innings for Amarillo.
The Riders and Sod Poodles meet for game two of the three-game series on Saturday, July 15th at 7:05 p.m. RHP Nick Krauth (2-5, 5.57) is expected to take the ball for the RoughRiders against RHP Jamison Hill (3-4, 5.12) for Amarillo.
