JACKSONVILLE, FL -- KC Serna hit a solo home run in the first inning and Alex Glenn crossed the plate in the bottom of the eighth, leading Jacksonville (19-26) to a 5-2 win over Mississippi (22-23) at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville Monday as the two teams wrapped up their last series in the first half of the season. They will meet two more times, home and home, in the second half.
With a 2-1 count in the bottom of the first, KC Serna hit a solo shot over the left field wall to give Jacksonville an early 1-0 lead. In the fourth, the Jumbo Shrimp struck again with the long ball. After a one out single to center field by Cal Towey, Taylor Ard launched a two-run bomb to put Jacksonville out front 3-0. Jacksonville picked up another run on a sacrifice fly from Brian Anderson in the fifth, scoring Yefri Pérez to make it a 4-0 game.
Mississippi finally got on the board in the top of the sixth when pitcher Max Fried led off the inning with a single to right-center field. Luis Valenzuela followed with a triple to right field, scoring Fried. Dylan Moore replaced Valenzuela as a pinch runner and scored on the sacrifice fly from Ronald Acuña Jr., cutting Jacksonville's lead to 4-2.

In Jacksonville's final at bat, Alex Glenn scored on a wild pitch to make it 5-2. After a lead-off double by Glenn, Austin Nola laid down a sacrifice bunt, moving Glenn to third. He later scored on a wild pitch.
Starting pitcher, Chris Mazza (1-2) went five and two-thirds innings for Jacksonville, giving up both runs on four hits with one free pass and five strike outs. James Buckelew earned a hold with one and one-third innings of one hit relief. Hunter Adkins pitched two perfect innings, striking out two, to earn his second save of the season.
M-Braves pitcher Max Fried (2-6) surrendered four runs on six hits in six innings of work, walking three and striking out six before giving way to Rex Brothers in the seventh. Brothers pitched one inning of hitless baseball, walking the first batter he faced before striking out the last three. Jason Hursh worked the final frame, giving up one run on one hit with two walks and one strikeout.
After an off day for travel, the Braves open a five game homestand against the Pensacola Blue Wahoos Wednesday evening at 7:00 PM CST at Trustmark Park. RHP Mike Soroka (4-3) is slated to go for Mississippi and Pensacola will counter with RHP Tyler Mahle (5-1).
