Making his first start in Colorado Springs since May 19, 2016, Jungmann (1-0, 1.26) allowed a first-inning run, but surrendered two hits after the first inning. The righty struck out two Cubs and allowed five base runners from the second inning on. Through his first three outings with the Sox in 2017, Jungmann has allowed two earned runs in 14.1 innings.
For the second game in a row, the Sky Sox (35-24) used a big third inning to take the lead. Two batters in, Ryan Cordell grounded a RBI triple into the left field corner, scoring Nate Orf to tie the score at 1-1. After a pair of walks, Kirk Nieuwenhuis grounded a two-run single past second baseman Chesny Young to score Cordell and Cooper to give the right fielder 11 RBI in 2017 and the Sox their first lead of the game.
Kyle Wren drew the fourth walk of the inning off Iowa starter Juan Paniagua, forcing Ivan De Jesus to score and complete the four-run frame. The Sox leadoff man played a factor in the two-run fifth inning, driving a triple to the right-centerfield gap to score Jungmann on the 10th pitch of the at-bat. Wren himself would come in to score on an Orf sacrifice fly one batter later.
The Sox added two more runs in the sixth inning. Wren added his third RBI of the game on his third hit to score Susac, who doubled to lead off the inning. Cordell stepped in two batters later and lined his fourth hit of the game to score pinch-hitter Tyler Heineman to extend the margin to seven.
The doubleheader continues as the Sox look to clinch the four-game series. RHP Bubba Derby makes his Sky Sox debut against Iowa left-hander David Rosscup. In his last outing, Derby threw six no-hit innings and struck out nine Braves before allowing one earned run at Mississippi June 5.
