Justin Rocke Hired As Director of Broadcasting

Former Smokies' broadcaster joins the Cardinals front office

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - The Johnson City Cardinals announced on Wednesday that they have hired Justin Rocke as the team's Director of Broadcasting and Media Relations for the upcoming 2017 season. The 25-year-old will serve as the Cardinals' play-by-play voice for all 70 games during the season, as well as being in charge

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - The Johnson City Cardinals announced on Wednesday that they have hired Justin Rocke as the team's Director of Broadcasting and Media Relations for the upcoming 2017 season. The 25-year-old will serve as the Cardinals' play-by-play voice for all 70 games during the season, as well as being in charge of all media relations responsibilities for the Appalachian League club. 
For the last two seasons, Rocke has served as a play-by-play voice, pre- and post-game show host and a media relations employee for the Tennessee Smokies, the Double-A affiliate of the Chicago Cubs. Justin also serves as the play-by-play broadcaster for Army West Point's women's basketball team during the winter.
Rocke has also served as Broadcast and Media Assistant for the Brevard County Manatees, former High-A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers, assisting the club in various broadcast, media relations and social media capacities in 2014 and has also spent two summers as a play-by-play voice of the Bourne Braves in the prestigious Cape Cod Baseball League.
A native of Closter, N.J., Rocke graduated from Penn State University in December 2014 with a degree in broadcast journalism and served as Sports Director of ComRadio, the school's student radio station. During his time at Penn State, Justin broadcasted multiple Nittany Lions sports, including football, basketball, baseball, and hockey, in addition to calling games for the State College Spikes, the Short-Season affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals. Rocke also gained experience in his time as a student commentating Penn State men's and women's basketball games for the Big Ten Network's StudentU broadcasts.
The Cardinals will begin their 2017 campaign at home on Thursday, June 22, with a three-game series against the Bristol Pirates, the Rookie affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates.
