Hagerstown held to four hits in 11-0 loss in series opener

Kannapolis, NC - The Hagerstown Suns were shut out by the Kannapolis Intimidators on Friday night in an 11-0 loss where Hagerstown was held to just four hits. The Suns fall to 9-19 on the season and will play the second game of the four-game series on Saturday at Intimidators Stadium with a 7:05 PM first pitch.

Nick Raquet took the ball for his sixth start of the season for the Suns, holding Kannapolis scoreless until the third inning. Nolan Brown bunted for a single and went to second when Laz Rivera singled to right. Craig Dedelow grounded out, moving both runners up a base and with two outs Tate Blackman singled to center, scoring both runners. The Intimidators took a 2-0 lead, and Justin Yurchak grounded out to end the inning.
The Suns got a pair of runners in the top of the fourth but couldn't capitalize. Raquet took the mound in the bottom of the frame, walking Evan Skoug to lead off the inning while Johan Cruz walked with one out. Brown singled to center to score Skoug and move Cruz to third and with two outs Dedelow reached on an error that allowed both Cruz and Brown to cross the plate, making it a 5-0 Kannapolis lead.
Sam Held got Kannapolis in order upon entering the game in the fifth, but the Intimidators got to the righty in the sixth. Brown led off with a double and Rivera was hit by a pitch to start the inning. Dedelow tripled to left, scoring both runners and making it a 7-0 game. Anthony Villa grounded out to short, but Dedelow scored to extend Kannapolis' lead, 8-0.
The Intimidators plated three more runs in the eighth with Jared Brasher entering the game for the Suns. Villa doubled to center with one out, moving to third with a two-out wild pitch. Justin Yurchak walked and Skoug blasted his third homer of the season to right-center, driving home three runs to give the Intimidators an 11-0 lead.
Raquet (2-3) took the loss after going 4.0 innings while allowing five runs (three earned) on nine hits with two walks and four strikeouts. Held allowed three runs over three innings, with four hits and three strikeouts. Brasher threw the ninth, allowing three runs on two hits with a walk and a strikeout.
Notes: The 4.0 innings for Raquet is his shortest start of the season… The nine hits he allowed are the most of his career… Banks has a four-game hit streak… Garcia has hit safely in his last four games… Sundberg also has a four-game hit streak… The 10 runners left on base is the second-highest total for Hagerstown in 2018… It's the fourth shutout the Suns have been involved in and they are 1-3 in those contests… Ben Braymer was named the Nationals Class-A Organizational Pitcher of the Month on Friday… Juan Soto, who was promoted to A+ Potomac on April 22, was named the Nationals Class-A Organizational Player of the Month on Friday… The Suns continue a four-game series against the Kannapolis Intimidators on Saturday with a 7:05 PM first pitch… Hagerstown will send RHP Carlos Acevedo (0-1, 9.00 ERA) to the hill against Intimidators LHP John Parke 3-1, 1.86 ERA).
