Keith's Multi-Hit, Multi-RBI Game Not Enough in Shuckers Setback to Clingstones

COLUMBUS, GA– The Biloxi Shuckers (55-49, 20-19) were on the wrong side of a back-and-forth series finale with the Columbus Clingstones (50-53, 21-18), 9-7 on Sunday evening at Synovus Park. The Clingstones cashed in five unanswered runs for their fifth straight win against the Shuckers.
The Clingstones belted back-to-back homers to begin the ballgame in the first, off the bats of Owen Carey and Jordan Groshans for an early 3-0 advantage. The Shuckers tied that mark in the top of the fourth after a Jesús Made RBI single and a two-run tank by Andrew Fischer, 392 feet off the bat at 107 mph. Columbus countered in the home half with an RBI triple by Groshans to make it 4-3. Biloxi bellowed back with a big inning in the fifth on a Blake Burke game-tying base knock, a Fischer go-ahead RBI walk, and a Damon Keith two-run single to up the lead to 7-4. The Clingstones came all the way back with a Kevin Kilpatrick Jr. home run in the fifth, a Luke Waddell RBI double in the sixth, and a two-run go-ahead single by Will Verdung plus a Kilpatrick Jr. RBI groundout to give Columbus a 9-7 edge in the eighth.
Damon Keith (2-for-4) collected multiple hits and RBIs, with Andrew Fischer (1-for-2) tallying a trio of runs driven and Jheremy Vargas (2-for-3) getting a pair of hits as well.
Samuel Strickland snuck away with the win, with Yorman Galindez (2-3) getting the loss, and Luis Vargas locking up his fourth save. Stiven Cruz (0.2ip, 1k) recorded the lone scoreless outing in the Shuckers bullpen.
The Shuckers are idle on Monday before they return home for a six-game set with the Pensacola Blue Wahoos (Miami Marlins) at Keesler Federal Park, beginning on Tuesday August 11.
