PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. (May 27, 2017) - Dalton Kelly collected a season-high four hits and Roel Ramirez turned in five shutout innings to lead the Charlotte Stone Crabs to a 4-2 win over the Fort Myers Miracle Saturday at Charlotte Sports Park.
Kelly finished 4-for-4 on the night, picking up his 11th double of the year. Ramirez (2-0) allowed only two hits while striking out three in his first start of the season.
With the game scoreless in the bottom of the first, Stone Crabs (22-25) second baseman Brandon Lowe drew a one-out walk against Fort Myers (25-25) starter Randy LeBlanc (2-1). Brett Sullivan followed by lining a double to left center to score Lowe and give Charlotte a 1-0 lead.
Still leading by one in the second, Ryan Boldt singled to center before Kelly chopped a double down the left field line to put runners at second and third with nobody out. Jake Fraley then pulled a groundout to second to score Boldt and make it 2-0. Two batters later, shortstop Jake Cronenworth bounced a single to left to plate Kelly and extend the Stone Crabs' lead to 3-0.
With Charlotte still up 3-0 in the bottom of the sixth, Boldt doubled off the wall in right to start the inning. After Kelly singled him to third, Thomas Milone lined a sacrifice fly to left to score Boldt and make it 4-0.
The Miracle plated singular runs in the seventh and ninth against the Stone Crabs bullpen to make it 4-2. However, Charlotte lefty Dalton Moats struck out Bradley Strong with the tying run on first to earn his first save.
The Stone Crabs and Miracle will play the rubber game of their three-game series Sunday at 12:35 p.m. Eduar Lopez (3-5, 4.73) makes the start for Charlotte against David Fischer of Fort Myers. Coverage begins at 12:20 p.m. on the Stone Crabs Baseball Network.
