Knights Drop Opener in Durham 9-2
(DURHAM, NC) – First baseman Seby Zavala hit his eighth home run of the season, but the Charlotte Knights fell to the Durham Bulls 9-2 on Tuesday evening to open up a six-game series at Durham Bulls Athletic Park.

Despite the loss, Zavala provided a strong offensive output for the Knights. He went 3-for-4 at the plate with a home run and a double. The home run was his eighth of the season and fifth in the month of May.
RHP Brody Koerner (0-3, 8.18) started the game and took the loss for Charlotte, giving up four runs in three innings of work in his second start of the season with the team since signing with the Chicago White Sox as a free agent.
Out of the bullpen for the Knights, LHP Zach Muckenhirn (one scoreless inning), RHP Kade McClure (two scoreless innings) and RHP Lincoln Henzman (one scoreless inning) were all effective on the night.
Charlotte scored the first run of the game in the first inning to jump out to a 1-0 lead thanks to a double from third baseman Danny Mendick, followed by an RBI single from catcher Carlos Pérez.In the second inning, the Bulls tied the game at 1-1 with a double steal with Xavier Edwards stealing home. At the conclusion of the inning, Durham was up 3-1 due to a two-run home run from Cal Stevenson.
In the third and fourth inning, the Bulls added to the lead with three RBI singles. At that point, the Knights trailed the Bulls by a score of 6-1. One inning later, Durham scored three more runs on an RBI double, a sacrifice fly and an RBI single to make the score 9-1.
The Knights added a second and final run of the game in the ninth inning when Zavala hit a solo home run to make it a 9-2 ballgame. The home run from Zavala was his third in the ninth inning of a game this season.
