(JACKSONVILLE, FL) – If you like home runs, then Sunday’s game was definitely for you.

The Charlotte Knights mashed six home runs and recorded 19 hits en-route to a 14-7 win over the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp from 121 Financial Ballpark in Jacksonville, FL on Sunday evening in the finale of the six-game series. The Knights and Jumbo Shrimp split the series, each winning three games apiece.

Sunday’s game was an epic offensive performance for the Knights. The team scored in each of the first seven innings and every player in the starting lineup had at least one hit. A total of six players had at least two hits and designated hitter Yermín Mercedes led the way with five hits. He also hit two of the team’s six home runs on the night.

The Knights jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead in the top of the first inning thanks to home runs from Gavin Sheets (three-run blast) and Mikie Mahtook (solo shot). The home run for Mahtook was his team-leading 18th of the season.

One inning later, the Knights used the long ball again to put up more runs on the scoreboard. Mercedes hit his first home run on the night to give the Knights a 7-2 lead in the second inning.

In the third, center fielder Blake Rutherford launched a two-run home run in a three-run inning. The Knights posted an impressive 10 runs through the first three innings of the game. Still, there were more home runs to come for Charlotte.

Shortstop Zach Remillard added a solo home run in the sixth inning and Mercedes hit his second homer of the game in the seventh inning. Both Remillard and Mercedes now have 10 home runs each this season.

In all, Mercedes went 5-for-6 with three runs scored, two home runs and three RBIs. His five hits are tied for the most by a Triple-A East player in a game this season. Rutherford and Sheets also had three RBIs each in the game.

RHP Will Carter (2-2, 4.09) earned the win out of the Charlotte bullpen. He allowed one unearned run over one inning of work. RHP Jimmy Lambert started the game for the Knights and gave up two runs on three hits over three

The Knights will have an off day on Monday before opening a six-game series against the Norfolk Tides from Truist Field on Tuesday night. First pitch of Tuesday’s game is set for 7:04 p.m. from Uptown Charlotte. The game can be heard live on 730 The Game ESPN Charlotte and www.CharlotteKnights.com.
