The SeaWolves snapped a three-game losing streak as they took down the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, 8-1, in the second game of Saturday night's doubleheader.
The Fisher Cats jumped ahead in the bottom of the first inning against Erie starter A.J. Ladwig. Bo Bichette led off with a single and stole second. He scored on a Cavan Biggio one-out single for a 1-0 lead.
The SeaWolves tied the game in the top of the third against Fisher Cats starter Hector Perez. Josh Thole led off with a walk and moved to second on a one-out Sergio Alcántara single. Thole scored on a two-out Daz Cameron base hit to make it a 1-1 game.
Erie then took the lead in the fourth. Dominic Ficociello led off with a single and he advanced to second on a Kody Eaves walk. Will Maddox laid down a sacrifice bunt pushing both runners into scoring position. Thole then lifted a sacrifice fly to right, scoring Ficociello for a 2-1 lead.
The 'Wolves took a commanding lead in the top of the sixth against reliever Danny Young. Josh Lester led off with a double off the wall in left-center. Ficociello followed with an infield single and Eaves walked to load the bases. Maddox singled to left, scoring Lester for a 3-1 lead. Thole then hit into a fielder's choice, scoring Ficociello for a 4-1 lead. Erie re-loaded the bases as Cam Gibson laid down a bunt single to turn the lineup over for Alcantara. Alcantara sharply grounded to third and the ball was booted by Santiago Espinal, allowing two runs to score for a 6-1 advantage. Willi Castro then tripled down the right field line, scoring a pair of runs to make it 8-1.
Ladwig (3-0) earned the win for the SeaWolves allowing a run on six hits with no walks and four strikeouts in five innings of work.
Perez (0-1) took the loss for New Hampshire. He allowed two runs on three hits with four walks and seven strikeouts in five innings.
The SeaWolves and Fisher Cats wrap up the series on Sunday afternoon at 1:35 p.m. RHP Alfred Gutierrez (2-1, 2.91 ERA) takes the mound for Erie against LHP Taylor Saucedo (3-1, 4.71 ERA).
