ASHEVILLE, NC - After trailing 6-0 in the top of the seventh inning, the Asheville Tourists made a mammoth comeback to tie the game against the Greensboro Grasshoppers, only to give up the lead in the ninth and fall 7-6 on Sunday at McCormick Field.
The comeback for the Tourists (19-26) was completed in the eighth inning. With runners at the corners and two outs, a new Grasshoppers (32-13) arm was summoned out of the bullpen. On the first pitch of his at-bat, Will Bush destroyed a home run over the right center field wall to even the score at six.
In the top of the ninth, the parade came to an end quickly as Colby Langford (L, 3-3) gave up the deciding run on a blast to Omar Alfonso. It was the only batter the southpaw faced that he didn’t retire in two innings of work.
With the bats, other impressive performances came from Kenni Gomez and Lucas Spence. Gomez went 4-for-4 with a pair of runs scored. Extending his hit streak to 10 games, Spence’s bat continued to sizzle with a knock into right during the seventh.
Off tomorrow, the club will hit the road for Georgia as they begin a six-game series on Tuesday against the Rome Emperors. The first pitch is set for 7:00 p.m. ET.
