Late De Los Santos Homer Not Enough as Baysox Fall to Fightin Phils on Thursday Night

Reading, PA (August 13, 2026) – The Chesapeake Baysox, the Double-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, tried to rally late, but fell to the Reading Fightin Phils, the Double-A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies, 6-4 on Thursday night.

Chesapeake (23-19, 52-58) had a couple of chances to rally late but ultimately came up short of a full comeback. The Baysox entered the seventh inning trailing 5-1 and loaded the bases twice in the frame but were only able to bring one run home. In the inning, a Thomas Sosa double, Griff O’Ferrall single, and Tavian Josenberger walk loaded them up with no outs for Aron Estrada, who came on as a pinch hitter. Estrada lifted a sacrifice fly to left that brought home Sosa. After a strikeout, a walk re-loaded the bases, but just as a brief rain shower picked up, another strikeout ended the threat.

In the ninth, Chesapeake once again entered trailing by four, 6-2. With two outs, Anderson De Los Santos lifted a two-run homer to right field to cut the deficit in half, before a game ending strikeout dashed any Baysox comeback hopes.

Chesapeake bats were held mostly quiet in the opening six frames. After a first inning hit and error, Reading right-handed starter Adam Seminaris retired the next nine hitters in order. In the top of the fourth, catcher Dom Keegan launched a solo homer to left field, knotting the score at one. It was Keegan’s third homer with the Baysox since joining the Orioles organization in late June. That was the only run given up by Seminaris (W, 11-7) in his six-inning start.

Right-hander Pat Reilly took the ball for the Baysox on Thursday in his fourth start off the injured list following last year’s Tommy John Surgery. Reilly bounced back from a three-walk first inning, where he did not allow a run, and struck out four consecutive batters. Reilly struck out eight hitters through four frames on Thursday.

The right-hander yielded a pair of runs. In the third, a one-out double came around to score on a two-out ground ball single from Fightin Phils’ outfielder Raylin Heredia to open the scoring. In the bottom of the fourth, a Luke Ritter double plated Caleb Ricketts on a play at the plate to give Reading a two-run lead. Reilly (L, 0-2) allowed three hits, walking just one after the first.

The Fightin Phils continued to add on against the Baysox bullpen on Thursday. The Fightin Phils scored runs in five of their last six trips to the plate. Heredia homered off right-hander Keagan Gillies in the fifth, finishing with three hits and two RBI. After a two-run fifth, Reading got runs on a sixth inning homer from Wuilfredo Antunez and a seventh inning, run-scoring triple from Aroon Escobar, who had a two RBI night.

Chesapeake continues the series in Reading on Friday night. Right-hander Anthony Eyanson (AA: 5-0, 1.87 ERA) makes his second Baysox start against Fightin Phils right-hander Gage Wood (AA: 0-1, 4.84 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 pm from FirstEnergy Stadium.

The Baysox return home on Tuesday, August 18, when they open a six-game set with the Richmond Flying Squirrels, the Double-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants. First pitch on Tuesday is set for 6:35 pm ET.
