STOCKTON, Calif. – The Ports (31-28, 58-67) could not keep up with the long ball of Ontario, and dropped Saturday’s contest 4-1. The loss puts Stockton one game back of Fresno in the second-half standings for the California League North.

It was a scoreless game through five with Jackson Phipps pitching 5.2 innings allowing two hits with five walks, three hit batters, and seven strikeouts. Phipps escaped his biggest jam in the third inning with the bases-loaded and just one out with a strikeout and groundout to keep it tied.

Luis Gamez pitched four scoreless for the Tower Buzzers (35-24, 68-57) with four walks and six strikeouts before Ontario went to the bullpen. The Ports scored their lone run on a Max Durrington RBI single that gave Stockton a 1-0 lead, just after Durrington nabbed a runner at the plate to keep it tied in the top of the inning.

Ontario answered immediately, a Kellon Lindsey home run blasted out to left to tie the game at 1-1 in the top of the seventh. Then two no-doubters came in the ninth from Conner O’Neal and Ching-Hsien Ko to make it 4-1, the final score of Saturday night’s contest.
