ROCHESTER, N.Y. (May 20, 2021) – The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders had their seven-game road winning streak snapped by the Rochester Red Wings on Thursday night at Frontier Field, 5-3.
The RailRiders struck in the top of the first for three runs against Jefry Rodriguez. Socrates Brito connected for a two-run double and scored on a single by Thomas Milone to stake Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to a 3-0 lead.
Brian Keller turned in his best outing of the season in his third start. The right-hander allowed only one run on three hits in 4.0 innings of work, striking out a season-high six batters. The only Rochester run against him came on a solo home run by Brandon Snyder.
The Red Wings tied the game in the fifth against Brooks Kriske. After a two-out walk to Yasmany Tomas, Daniel Palka tucked a two-run home run over the right field wall to tie the game at 3-3.
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre threatened, but stranded four runners on base in its final three turns at bat. Nestor Cortes (1-1) retired the first seven batters he faced in relief for the RailRiders, but allowed a two-run, walk-off home run to Luis Garcia with one out in the bottom of the ninth to end the game.
Brandon Wagner turned in a two-hit performance for the RailRiders, and is now 4-for-10 in his first three games with the club this season.
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre continues its six-game series at the Rochester on Friday night. LHP Mike Montgomery (0-2, 9.26) takes the mound for the RailRiders, while RHP Steven Fuentes (0-1, 12.15) gets the call for the Red Wings. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m., with coverage on the RailRiders Baseball Network beginning at 6:45 p.m.
