In the home opener at Lindquist Field, the Ogden Raptors hoped to provide their fans something to cheer about.
They did, with a pair of two-run innings, three extra-base hits and great plays on defense.
The Orem Owlz, however, went out to a lead in the second inning and never trailed, eventually piling on with five runs each in the eighth and ninth innings in a 16-5 victory.
Raptors starter Adalberto Peña pitched well, allowing just one run and striking out four in two and one-third scoreless innings, but he took the loss as Orem scored twice more after he left the game and before Ogden could put a runner across the plate.
Trailing, 3-0, into the bottom of the fourth, the Raptors' Luis Paz worked a leadoff walk before Cristian Santana roped the ball into the gap in right-center for his first triple of the season. Michael Medina made it two runs on a sacrifice fly.
Orem scored three times in the sixth, but Ogden answered with two of their own as Santana hit a solo home run, his second of the year, and Medina doubled and scored on a Hendrik Clementina single.
Romer Cuadrado notched an RBI in the eighth when his single brought in Paz, who had reached on a dropped pop-up.
The second Raptors home game of the season, Thursday, June 22nd, will be a Thirsty Thursday. During the game, soda fountain drinks will be half-price, and 12-ounce domestic draft and canned beer will be $2.
