SAN ANTONIO – Reggie Lawson continued his dominance in the month of June as he allowed just one run on two hits Thursday night. The Missions offense provided enough run support with three runs on 11 hits. Lawson recorded his fourth win in the month of June as the Missions end their brief losing skid with a 3-2 victory.

After scoring one run on three hits in Wednesday’s game, the Missions offense jumped ahead right away on Thursday night. Facing Jeff Criswell, Connor Hollis took the second pitch of the game over the left field wall for a lead-off home run. His sixth long ball of the year made it a 1-0 Missions lead.

San Antonio had an opportunity to add to that lead in the top of the first inning. Following Hollis’ homer, Domingo Leyba drew a one-out walk and Juan Fernandez hit a single. After the second out of the inning, Jorge Ona drew a walk to load the bases. Connor Kaiser left the bases loaded after striking out.

Reggie Lawson was the starting pitcher for the San Antonio Missions. Granted an early lead, he had to pitch out of a jam in the bottom of the first inning. With one out in the inning, Lawson allowed a walk and a hit by pitch to put two runners on with one out. The defense helped Lawson out as Jordan Diaz bounced into a double play to end the inning.

The Missions had another scoring opportunity in the top of the second inning. With two outs in the inning, Hollis hit a line drive into center field. The ball ended up going past Mickey McDonald and Hollis was able to advance to third base. Thomas Milone drew a walk to keep the inning alive. With runners on the corners and two outs, Leyba flew out to end the inning.

The Missions added an insurance run in the top of the third inning. With one out in the inning, Tirso Ornelas laced a double to center field. Ona followed that up with a base hit. Kaiser drove in Ornelas with a single to left field. The Missions improved their lead to 2-0.

Lawson dazzled on the mound through the first four innings of play. Heading into the bottom of the fifth inning, he had allowed just one hit while striking out six batters. Midland plated their first run off Lawson in the bottom of the fifth inning. With one out in the inning, Austin Beck hit a hanging curveball for a solo home run. His first Double-A homer made it a 2-1 missions lead. Lawson finished the night with seven strikeouts in five innings of work.

San Antonio regained a two-run lead after adding a run in the top of the sixth inning. Chandler Seagle got things started with a lead-off single. After a ground out, Hollis hit a single into right field. Thomas Milone drove in Seagle with a single to right field. The Missions loaded the bases after Leyba drew a walk. With the bases loaded and one out, Fernandez struck out and Ornelas grounded out to leave three runners on base. However, the Missions improved their lead to 3-1.

Carlos Belen came on to pitch the bottom of the sixth inning for San Antonio. The hard-throwing right-hander pitched out of a jam to keep the Missions lead intact. He allowed back-to-back singles to Brett Harris and JJ Schwarz to start the inning. After a ground out, Belen struck out Jeremy Eierman and Marty Bechina to end the inning and leave the two runners stranded.

San Antonio had another scoring opportunity in the top of the seventh inning. Ona hit a single and Seagle drew a walk. With two on and one out, Ripken Reyes grounded out and Hollis grounded out to end the scoring threat.

Midland cut the deficit in half during the bottom of the seventh inning. Facing Alek Jacob, William Simoneit reached base on a fielding error from Fernandez. After striking out the next two batters, Mickey McDonald hit a double to left field allowing Simoneit to come around and score. For Jacob, it was the first run he has allowed in his last 18.0 innings pitched. San Antonio had a 3-2 advantage.

Angel Felipe came on to pitch the ninth inning for the Missions. Despite walking one batter, he recorded a strikeout while converting his ninth save of the season.
