All of the offense came in a singular inning as the Sugar Land Space Cowboys (34-43, 1-1) fell to the Oklahoma City Dodgers (51-24, 1-1) 4-2 on Thursday night at Constellation Field.

Oklahoma City struck for their only runs of the game in the fourth. Devin Mann singled to begin the frame and moved to third on a single by Hunter Feduccia before a fielder’s choice from Bryson Brigman brought in the first run. Another single and a walk loaded up the bases against RHP Misael Tamarez (L, 0-3) and Kole Calhoun cleared the bases with a triple, pushing the Dodgers ahead 4-0.

Sugar Land used the long ball to find their response in the bottom of the fourth. Pedro León started the inning with a solo home run to left, his 12th of the season, making it 4-1 OKC. Jon Singleton followed with a line-drive homer over the right-field fence, his second of the year with Sugar Land, going back-to-back with León to bring the Space Cowboys within a pair at 4-2.

LHP Alec Gamboa (W, 2-0) entered in the fifth for Oklahoma City and worked around a lead-off walk in the fifth and a single by León to begin the sixth, tossing 2.2 scoreless frames for the Dodgers. Sugar Land threatened to score against the lefty in the seventh when David Hensley singled and advanced to second on a throwing error in front of a walk to Marty Costes, putting the tying run on base. However, Gamboa induced a fly out and RHP Gus Varland (H, 3) struck out the one hitter he faced to strand both runners.

The Space Cowboys mounted one final charge in the ninth inning. Rylan Bannon was hit by a pitch from RHP Wander Suero (S, 8) and Hensley walked, yet again putting the tying run on base. Suero responded with a pair of flyouts, closing out the game for the Dodgers.

With the series even at 1-1, Sugar Land continues their six-game tilt with the Dodgers on Friday night. Recently acquired from the Orioles, RHP Spenser Watkins is set to make his Space Cowboys debut while Oklahoma City is scheduled to send RHP Gavin Stone (2-4, 6.71) to the hill for a 7:05 pm first pitch. The game can be heard on ESPN 92.5 FM or online here and seen on MiLB.TV.
