Arkansas Travelers outfielder Kyle Lewis was named Texas League Player of the Week for June 17-23. Lewis reached base in all six of the games he played in with 11 hits and seven walks and at one point reached base in nine consecutive plate appearances. He slashed .524/.643/.619 for the week going 11-21 with two doubles, one run batted in and seven runs scored. His batting average, on-base percentage, hits, walks and runs were all the most in the league. He joins pitchers Darren McCaughan, Andrew Moore and outfielder Jake Fraley as TL weekly award winners from the Travs in 2019.
Lewis was drafted by the Mariners with the 11th overall pick in the 2016 Major League Baseball draft. For the season he is hitting .265/.367/.388 with 14 doubles, two triples, four homers and 39 runs batted in. He ranks ninth in the league in on-base percentage thanks to having drawn a Texas League high 40 bases on balls.
Lewis and Travs are off for the TL All-Star Break until Thursday when they welcome Tulsa to Dickey-Stephens Park for the opener of a four game series. The Travs were the first half TL North Division champions and own the best record in all of Double-A baseball.
