Lockridge Posts Career Day with Five RBI to Solidify Sounds Win

JACKSONVILLE, FL – The Nashville Sounds tied the series at two games apiece against the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp with an 8-5 win Friday at VyStar Ballpark. Brandon Lockridge led the way posting a career-high five RBI, including a bases-clearing double in the top of the eighth inning lifting the Sounds to victory in the late frames.

Lockridge broke the scoreless tie in the top of the second inning as Tyler Black led off the frame with a single into center field. Ethan Murray was out on a sacrifice bunt and advanced Black to second base. The next at-bat, Jacob Hurtubise reached base on a fielder's choice in which Black was caught between second and third, getting tagged on the back side for the first out of the frame. After Hurtubise stole for second base, Daniel Guilarte drew a two-out walk. Lockridge followed by ripping a two-run double into center field and scored Hurtubise and Guilarte for the early 2-0 Sounds lead. In the top of the third inning, Nashville grew its lead to three runs as Luke Adams, Blake Burke and Brock Wilken all hit consecutive singles in which Wilken drove home Adams.

In the bottom of the third inning, the Jumbo Shrimp got on the board as Jonathon Long scored Maximo Acosta, cutting Nashville's lead to two runs. The Sounds grew the lead back up to three runs in the top of the fourth inning as Lockridge tacked on his second hit of the day straight to the pitcher and beat the throw to first. Bo Naylor extended his hitting streak to eight games with his third double of the season to right field to score Lockridge.

The Jumbo Shrimp added two more runs in the bottom half of the fourth as Brandon Sproat issued a two-out walk to Gage Miller. Sproat threw the ball away on a pickoff attempt at first base, which advanced Miller to third. Jared Serna crushed a two-run homer to left center field and cut the Sounds lead down to one run. Wilken hit a moonshot to left field and grew the Sounds lead back up to two runs in the top of the fifth inning. Sproat ended his day allowing three runs (two earned) on one hit and striking out seven Jumbo Shrimp hitters before Joel Kuhnel took over in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Kuhnel tossed a scoreless fifth, allowing just two hits and striking out one batter before Garrett Stallings took the reins over in the bottom of the sixth inning. Stallings worked a scoreless sixth, while he allowed a run to cross in the bottom of the seventh off a Jonathon Long sac fly as the Sounds lead was cut to one. In the top of the eighth inning, Nashville added three insurance runs to the lead as Black and Hurtubise drew back-to-back walks. Guilarte lined a single to shortstop which loaded the bases and set up Lockridge to rip a bases-clearing double for the four-run lead.

Gerson Garabito relieved Stallings in the bottom of the eighth inning and worked around a one-out walk to quickly get out of the frame. In the bottom of the ninth inning, Blake Holub entered the game for Garabito and allowed a leadoff home run by Serna, his second of the day. Holub shut down the next three batters, including a strikeout, as the Sounds held on for the 8-5 win.

The Sounds continue this week's series on Saturday at VyStar Ballpark. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 pm with RHP Tyson Hardin (3-4, 4.88 ERA) making the start for Nashville.

LOCKED IN: Brandon Lockridge posted a 3-for-5 day with two doubles, tallying a career-high five RBI in Friday's game against the Jumbo Shrimp. Since returning to the Sounds on August 23, Lockridge has posted a hit in 4-of-the-5 games played and posted a season-high three hits on Friday. He has posted a .263 batting average (10-for-38), a homer, two doubles, eight RBI and seven runs in 10 games with Nashville this season. Lockridge is the fifth Sounds hitter to record five or more RBI this season alongside Luke Adams, Brock Wilken, Tyler Black and Akil Baddoo. The two doubles Lockridge recorded was his ninth career game with two or more doubles in a single game since 2018 and is the sixth different Sound this season to record two or more doubles in a game. The 29-year-old has tallied 65 multi-RBI games since 2018, in which two have come with the Sounds. His first multi-RBI game with Nashville was at Louisville, when he recorded four RBI on September 18 last season and went 4-for-5 with a double, a walk and two runs.

BROCKET TIME: Brock Wilken clubbed his 15th homer of the season for the Sounds with a solo shot to left field in the top of the fifth inning. He finished the day going 2-for-4, two RBI, a walk and a run. The 15 homers leads all Sounds players this season and are the fourth-most homers he has recorded since the start of his professional career in 2023. It marks the second homer of the week for Wilken with the first one coming in Tuesday's 14-6 victory over the Jumbo Shrimp with a two-run blast to cap off a five-run sixth inning. He has posted four homers against the Jumbo Shrimp, which is the second-most homers he has recorded against one team this season. The 24-year-old also posted his 20th multi-RBI game and the 12th multi-hit game of the season in which he leads the team in both categories. Wilken ranks tied for second in walks (75) and ranks sixth in RBI (73) in the International League.

IN A MURRAY: Ethan Murray has been on a tear for the Sounds and posted a 2-for-4 day, leading to his 13th multi-hit game of the season in Friday's game against the Jumbo Shrimp and extending his on-base streak to 13 consecutive games. The 13 consecutive games is tied with Luke Adams for the second longest-active on-base streak on the team. Murray has posted a .261 batting average (12-for-46), added three XBH, 10 RBI and nine runs during his current streak. He has recorded at least one hit in 15-of-the-19 games he has played since August 5, including two 2-hit games.
