A one-hit shutout by the Lookouts pitching staff has led Chattanooga to a 3-0 victory over the Jackson Generals in front of a sell out crowd on Saturday night at AT&T Field.
Lookouts southpaw Reiver Sanmartin allowed the lone hit of the game via leadoff double to begin the sixth inning on his way to six shutout innings. Relievers Brandon Finnegan and Juan Martinez sat down nine of the final 10 Jackson hitters to close out the victory. Martinez picked up his 10th save of the season, tying Joel Kuhnel for the most by a Chattanooga pitcher in 2019.
In front of 6,373 fans, Chattanooga got all the offence they needed thanks to a two-run third inning. After Alberti Chavez was a hit by pitch and Michael Beltre drew a two-out walk, Michael O'Neill stepped to the plate and smashed a two-run double to left field for his first extra-base hit since joining the Lookouts at the start of the homestand. Free passes haunted the Generals again in the fourth inning as Jonathan India scored on an RBI double by Chavez after drawing a walk earlier in the frame.
The Lookouts will go for the series victory tomorrow as Chattanooga right-hander Wendolyn Bautista (1-1, 4.43 ERA) matches up against fellow righty Josh Green (1-1, 3.20 ERA).
